Some locations do provide chairs, however, most do not. If chairs are provided, it is noted. However, most members get in the habit of bringing a folding chair to all performances. For parades, always bring your own music stand and a folding chair. For parades and outside concerts, you may wish to bring clothes pins or a sheet of clear plastic to fix your music to your music stand because of the wind.

Member's Information: Musical Etiquette
Performances Most members should remember these procedures from their school band experiences. At the start of a selection, all members need to make eye contact with the director. During the final moments of a selection, members who are not playing should not put up music for the next selection. Instead, wait until the selection is finished, then change your music with the rest of the band. Members should not be talking while the band is playing a musical selection or the announcer is talking. Rehearsals Most members should also remember these practices from their school band experiences. Members should not be talking while the band is playing a musical selection. Nor should they talk or play their instruments while the director is speaking to the band or when the director is working with another section of the band.

Member's Information: Receipts and Reimbursements
Band Expenses a) All purchases for the band need to be approved in advance by the Director or President. From time to time band members purchase items for the band. Most of the time, they are requested to do so and help out greatly with the donation of their time and effort. If not requested to make a purchase, a band member must have any purchases they believe need to be made approved in advance.
b) Tipp-Monroe Community Services (TMCS) will accept no receipts directly from band members to be reimbursed for band expenses. Instead, band members should turn the receipt into the Treasurer (after the purchase has been approved in advance of course). The Treasurer will turn the receipts into TMCS. This helps to keep our records in agreement with the official records of TMCS. TMCS will mail a check to the band member for the amount of the receipt.
c) In situations where companies send bills directly to TMCS, payment will be made only when coordinated in advance by the Director, President or Vice President as they usually initiate the purchase.
d) When the Treasurer attaches a cover letter to the bills she turns in to TMCS, this will satisfy their request that receipts be countersigned by a band officer.

Member's Information: Emergency Phone Calling Chain
Purpose The phone calling chain is for situations where email and postal mail are not fast enough to inform the members of a situation that needs to be addressed immediately. An example is a last minute cancellation of a concert because of sudden bad weather in the Winter. Special Note: In the summer we are paid for showing up at outdoor concerts even if it rains. So we do not cancel outdoor concerts until we are there in order to get paid. Operation Members should not start the phone calling chain themselves. Instead, contact the President, Vice President, or Director. The Director of a concert, the President, or the Vice President start the emergency phone calling chain. This gives us a chance to decide upon a course of action in addition to just stating the problem and then have one phone call give both the problem and the solution. Some members phone numbers may be unlisted. So please do not give a member's phone number to those outside the band without checking first with that member.
